About Kim
Kim Shaw is a lifelong Missouri resident. She was born in Louisiana, Missouri. When she was eight years old, her family moved to Columbia, and she graduated from Hickman High School in 1979. She worked full time at Shelter Insurance while putting herself through night school at Columbia College, obtaining her bachelor of science in business administration. Next she entered law school, earning her J.D. from the University of Missouri- Columbia in 1989.
Kim began her legal career working in Cape Girardeau County as a Public Defender. She handled over 400 cases in the two and a half years she spent there. Then she returned to Columbia to work in the Capital Division handling death penalty cases throughout Missouri. She was promoted and served as District Defender of the central Capital Division prior to leaving in 2000 to enter private practice. Kim spent the next nine years of her career practicing law in mid-Missouri, during which time she served on the family law committee and the criminal law committee of the Boone County Bar Association. She recently joined the Boone County trial office of the Public Defender.
Kim lives in Ashland with her husband, Chuck Brown, her son Matthew Shaw (14), and her two step-sons James (15) and Ross (12) Brown. Kim enjoys travelling, reading, and camping with friends and family. She loves trying new things. Already a certified scuba diver, she is also taking flying lessons to obtain her private pilot’s license.
